Fit and sizing

Getting the fit right

Will a running belt bounce while I run?

A well fitted belt should not bounce at all. TEMPO belts sit flat against the body and stay put through intervals, hills and sprint finishes. Almost every bounce complaint comes down to wearing the belt too loose or too low on the hips. Sit it at your natural waist, tighten the sliding clips until you can just fit two fingers underneath, then jog on the spot for thirty seconds before you head out.

What size running belt should I get?

There is no size to choose. Every TEMPO belt is one size and fully adjustable on sliding clips rather than a fixed chart, so it fits the vast majority of adult runners and keeps fitting if your shape changes across a training block.

Where should a running belt sit on your body?

At your natural waist, just above the hip bone, not down on the hips. Worn low the belt has nothing to grip against and will slide as you run. See the Size and Fit Guide for a diagram.

Can I wear a running belt under my clothing?

Yes. The low profile design sits under a shirt or jacket without a visible bulge, which suits winter running and travelling. Over your clothing gives you faster access to gels on race day.

Are TEMPO belts suitable for men and women?

Yes. Every belt is built to fit a wide range of body shapes and running styles, for runners of all genders. The adjustable clip system is precisely why we avoided gendered sizing.

Will it fit over a jacket or winter layers?

Yes, the adjustment range has plenty of room for layers. Loosen it a notch when you add a jacket and take it back in when you shed one.

Choosing a belt

PACE, CARRY or both

Take the belt quiz
Which running belt is best for race day?

PACE. It is our slimmest and lightest belt, built to hold a race bib and a gel or two and then disappear until you cross the line. It has bib loops built in, so you never put a pin hole in a race shirt.

Which running belt is best for a marathon or long run?

CARRY. It is the roomier storage belt, built for runners who want a phone, keys, cards and nutrition on them for two hours or more without carrying anything in their hands.

Can a running belt hold a phone?

CARRY holds phones up to 6.9 inches along with keys and cards. PACE is deliberately slimmer and does not take a phone, because leaving it out is what keeps PACE as light as it is.

Do I need a running belt or a running vest?

A belt covers most road running, racing and training up to marathon distance. A vest starts to make sense once you need litres of water and spare layers, which usually means long trail and ultra distances. If you are carrying a phone, gels and keys, a belt is lighter and less hot.

What is the difference between a race belt and a running belt?

A race belt is a slim strap for a race bib and a gel or two, with no real storage. A running belt usually means a wider belt with a pocket for a phone, keys and cards. TEMPO PACE is the first, TEMPO CARRY is the second.

Can you wear a running belt with a hydration vest?

Yes. A slim belt like PACE sits below a vest without interfering, which is a common set up for runners who want their bib on a belt and their water on their back.

How do you carry gels while running?

Gel loops on a race belt are the simplest method, because they hold gels flat against the body and keep them reachable without unzipping anything mid stride. PACE has two gel loops built in, and the CARRY pouch takes several more.

How do I attach a race bib without pins?

Thread the bib onto the belt using the toggles, then adjust so it sits flat at the front. PACE has bib loops built in for exactly this, so your race shirt stays intact.

About the belts

Are TEMPO running belts waterproof?

They resist sweat and light rain, which protects what you are carrying in damp conditions, but they are not fully waterproof. In sustained heavy rain, put anything critical in a small zip bag inside the pouch.

How do I clean my running belt?

Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clear. Air dry only. No machine wash, tumble dryer, bleach, fabric softener or ironing. Full detail on the Care Instructions page.

Can I wear CARRY on my back instead of my front?

Yes. The pouch slides freely around the belt, so you can set it front, side or back depending on what keeps it clear of your arms.

Do the belts have reflective detailing?

Yes, there is reflective trim for early starts and evening runs. It is not a substitute for a proper light on unlit roads.

What is the TEMPO Sip Clip?

A 150ml collapsible soft flask that clips straight onto any TEMPO belt loop, so you get water without a separate strap. It folds flat as you drink, so there is no sloshing and no dead weight late in a run.

Can I use a TEMPO belt for walking, hiking or travel?

Yes. Plenty of customers buy one for running and end up wearing it for commuting, hiking and travel, because it is secure and sits flatter than a bum bag.
