Care Instructions

Look after a TEMPO belt properly and it will outlast several pairs of shoes. Here is everything worth knowing, in the order it matters.

After every run

Sweat is the thing that ages a belt, not distance. Give it a quick rinse under cold water when you get home, especially after a hot or humid run, and hang it somewhere airy. Thirty seconds here does more for the life of the belt than anything else on this page.

Washing

  • Hand wash in cold water with a small amount of mild detergent
  • Work the fabric gently with your hands, no scrubbing brush
  • Rinse until the water runs clear, so no detergent stays in the fabric
  • Squeeze the water out rather than wringing, which stretches the webbing

Please avoid the machine. A wash cycle puts the buckle through repeated impacts and can distort the webbing, and it is the single most common way a belt gets damaged.

What to keep away from it

  • Tumble dryers and radiators, which weaken elastic and adhesive
  • Bleach and stain removers, which break down the fabric
  • Fabric softener, which coats the fibres and stops them wicking sweat
  • Irons, which will melt the webbing and the reflective trim

Drying

Air dry only, out of prolonged direct sun. A shaded spot with moving air is ideal. Make sure it is completely dry before you put it away, because storing a damp belt is how you end up with a smell you cannot shift.

Your Sip Clip

Rinse the flask after every use, even if you only had water in it. Wash it with warm water and a mild soap, and stand it upside down to drain so no moisture is trapped inside. If you have been using electrolytes or a race mix, rinse it the same day rather than leaving it in your bag.

Storage

Somewhere cool and dry, laid flat or loosely rolled. Do not fold it tightly along the same crease every time, and keep it away from keys and anything sharp in the bottom of a gym bag.

Getting a smell out

Soak the belt for twenty minutes in cold water with a splash of white vinegar, then rinse thoroughly and air dry. This works better than more detergent, which tends to build up and make the problem worse.

Something not right?

If a buckle, a seam or the webbing fails under normal use, email hello@tempobelts.com.au with your order number and a photo. We would rather sort it out than have you quietly stop wearing it.
